Med-Stop provides the services a company needs to run a workplace drug and alcohol testing program for DOT-regulated and non-DOT employees, together with a web-based system to manage it. The services your company uses depend on how your account is set up and what you have agreed to with Med-Stop.
Drug and alcohol testing
Med-Stop arranges urine drug tests and breath alcohol tests, DOT and non-DOT, at Med-Stop and partner collection sites. Your company orders a test with a test request, the employee goes to the collection site, and the completed test and its result appear in the employer app. Tests collected somewhere else can be recorded in Med-Stop too, so your records stay complete.
Ordering drug tests through a test request requires an active laboratory account for your company.
Random testing
The Med-Stop Random Selection Service is built into the employer app. It maintains your random pools from your employee list, makes computer-controlled selections for DOT and company-specific programs, and tracks each selection through to the test. The service can be activated at any time.
The service is a one-employer program. A DOT-regulated owner-operator who employs only himself or herself must be in a larger random pool and should use a consortium instead; see DOT random testing consortium.
Medical Review Officer (MRO) review
Laboratory drug test results are reviewed by a Medical Review Officer before a verified result is reported to the employer, as required for DOT tests by 49 CFR Part 40, Subpart G. MRO questions can go to the MRO contact listed in Phone and email support.
DOT physical exams
Med-Stop supports DOT medical examinations for commercial drivers. Exams are recorded as medical examination tests, with the examination report and medical certificate available with the record.
FMCSA Clearinghouse
If your company employs CDL drivers, it queries and reports in its own FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse account, or through a consortium/third-party administrator (C/TPA) it designates there. Med-Stop is not a C/TPA in the Clearinghouse: you cannot designate Med-Stop there, and Med-Stop does not run queries or report violations, return-to-duty results, or follow-up results for your company. The tests, results, and violations recorded in the employer app give you the information you need for your own reports.

Compliance records in one place
The employer app keeps employees and applicants, documents, training, accidents, violations and inspections, compliance alerts, reports, and billing together. Compliance checks flag what needs attention, and reports summarize your data when you need it.
For consortiums and TPAs
Med-Stop is not a consortium or a C/TPA. It provides its application to consortiums and third-party administrators (C/TPAs), who use it to manage their member employers and run their consortium random testing programs. If your company is a member of a consortium that uses Med-Stop, your C/TPA manages your random pools and selections.
