If your company activates the Med-Stop Random Selection Service later in the year, after one or more selection periods have already passed, decide whether to run selections for the full year or skip the periods that have already ended.
According to DOT regulations, if your company is established later in the year, you do not have to perform random selections for the entire year based on the target percentage and the average number of employees in your company.
If your company already conducted random testing using another service or software and is now activating the Med-Stop Random Selection Service, you can skip the selection periods during which you were not using Med-Stop. In that case, you are responsible for providing the random selection documentation and reports for the periods when Med-Stop was not used.
For example, if a company begins operations and becomes a DOT-regulated entity on April 1, it does not have to perform random selections for the first quarter of the year.
This can be calculated by adjusting the average number of company employees or subtracting the percentage for the first selection period. In the case of a DOT-regulated drug testing random selection, the target percentage for the entire year is 50% of selections from the company’s DOT-regulated employee number average. Therefore, one quarter’s percentage should be 12.5%. To comply with DOT regulations, this company would need to perform at least 50% - 12.5% = 37.5% selections.
