The Random Selection Pool defines the parameters and options for the random selection process, lists pool members, maintains a record of selections, and preserves the full selection history.
If, during setup of the Med-Stop Random Service for your company, you selected the option to automatically create DOT-regulated pools, you do not need to create new pools manually. These pools are generated automatically when the service is activated and at the beginning of each calendar year.
For DOT-regulated pools, separate pools are created for Alcohol Testing and Drug Testing. The default selection rates are based on DOT-required standards. At any given time, there can be only one active DOT pool per testing type.
If your company uses the non-DOT Med-Stop Random Service, you may create as many pools as needed and set the target percentage based on your internal procedures.
Step 1: Create the Pool
To create a new pool:
- Navigate to the Random menu from the Med-Stop for Employers main menu.
- Click New Random Pool.
- This opens the Random Selection Pool step-by-step process, which guides you through pool creation.
Step 2: Service and Status
- Specify the pool service and DOT status.
- Optionally, provide a short description for the pool.
- Note: If an active DOT pool for the selected service already exists, you cannot create another pool for the same service.
Step 3: Pool Options
- For DOT pools, the target percentage is automatically set according to DOT selection rates.
- You can enable the Double Jeopardy Selection option. This feature attempts to match employees selected for one type of test with the other. For example, if an employee is selected for a random urine drug test, the Double Jeopardy option also selects the same employee for a random alcohol test on the same date. This practice is permitted under DOT regulations.
- Specify the selection frequency, pool start date, and end date.
