A random pool defines who can be selected, how many tests are needed, and when selections are made. It also keeps every selection made from it.

Before you start

• If you chose automatic DOT pools in the random service setup, DOT pools are created for you each year; you do not need to create them.
• Only one active DOT pool is allowed per test type. For non-DOT testing you can create as many pools as you need.

Steps

1. Choose Random > New Random Pool.
2. Choose the Pool Type (test type), whether it is a DOT Regulated Pool, and an optional Description.
3. Enter the Target Percentage (more than 5), Selection Frequency, and the Earliest Selection Date and Latest Selection Date.
4. Choose the members: employment statuses (non-DOT pools only) and categories. DOT pools include all safety-sensitive employees; drivers are always members.
5. Choose the options: whether a member can be selected more than once in a period, whether alcohol selections are scheduled with drug selections when possible (alcohol pools), and any additional selections per period.
6. Review the summary and select Finish.

What happens next

Med-Stop adds the members and makes selections from the earliest selection date. Review the members before the first period. For each option, see Random pool settings.
