Each DOT agency (FMCSA, FAA, FRA, FTA, PHMSA, and USCG) sets the minimum percentage of covered employees that must be randomly tested for drugs and for alcohol each year. The rates can change from year to year, so always check the current published rates rather than relying on a past year's figure.
2026 FMCSA rates: at least 50% of the average number of driver positions for drug testing and 10% for alcohol testing, unchanged since 2020. Other DOT agencies publish their own rates, which can differ.
When Med-Stop creates DOT pools automatically, it uses the DOT-specified target percentage. You can set a higher target for your company, but not a lower one.
