Reactivate a former employee
Last Updated: 09/24/2026
When a former employee returns, reactivate the existing record instead of adding a new employee. Their test, accident, and training history stays together.
Steps
- Open Employees > Terminated Employees, find the person, and choose Reactivate.
- Confirm the terminated employee. If the person is also registered as an applicant or active employee, Med-Stop explains that selecting Next again merges that information into the reactivated record.
- Choose whether this is a reactivation or a new employment. If the employee was terminated more than 30 days ago, Med-Stop asks for a reason before continuing.
- Enter the employment details: status, branch, DOT status and agency when shown, category, application and hire dates, and medical exam expiration when shown.
- Review the summary and select Finish.
DOT drivers
Before a returning DOT driver performs safety-sensitive functions, check whether a new pre-employment test (and, for FMCSA drivers, a pre-employment Clearinghouse query) is required. See 49 CFR 382.301; the reactivation form links to this rule and FMCSA interpretations.
What happens next
If your company uses Med-Stop random service, the employee counts in your random pools starting on the hire date. Verify the status and dates on the Employment screen.
