Accident Related Requests and Tests
DOT-regulated companies must follow the regulations for post-accident testing and related procedures. As regulated by §382.303, post-accident tests must be performed as soon as possible. Controlled substances tests must be performed within 32 hours following the accident. Alcohol tests must be performed within 8 hours of the accident.

The requirement to test for alcohol and controlled substances following an accident should not delay necessary medical attention for injured people or prevent a driver from leaving the scene to obtain assistance or emergency medical care.
