Who can perform a DOT medical examination?

Only a medical examiner listed on the FMCSA National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners may perform a DOT physical (49 CFR 391.43).
Examiners must be licensed in their state to perform physical examinations and must complete FMCSA training and pass the certification test. They can include doctors of medicine and osteopathy, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, and doctors of chiropractic.
Exceptions: a licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist may perform the vision part of the exam, and a certified VA medical examiner may examine veteran operators.
