A non-DOT test is a drug or alcohol test your company requires under its own policy or applicable state law, not under DOT regulations. DOT procedures in 49 CFR Part 40 do not govern it, and DOT forms may not be used for it (49 CFR 40.13).

• Your company policy sets who is tested, when, the drug panel, and the consequences.
• Non-DOT tests use non-DOT custody and control forms and can use a different drug panel.
• Non-DOT results are kept separate from DOT results and are not reported to the FMCSA Clearinghouse.

In Med-Stop you choose the DOT status when you create a test request: set DOT Regulated Test to No for a non-DOT test, then choose the Drug Test Panel. If the employee is marked as DOT only or non-DOT only, the DOT status is set for you.
