How Med-Stop works

Med-Stop connects everyone involved in a workplace test: your company, the employee, the collection site, the laboratory, and the Medical Review Officer (MRO). Each works in its own part of the Med-Stop system and sees only what its role allows.
Who does what

| Employer | Keeps the employee list current, orders tests, acts on random selections, and reviews results and compliance alerts in the employer app. |
| Employee or applicant | Receives test instructions and goes to the collection site. |
| Collection site | Performs the collection or breath alcohol test and records it in the Med-Stop collection site app. |
| Laboratory | Tests drug specimens and reports laboratory results. |
| Medical Review Officer | Reviews laboratory drug test results and reports the verified result. |
| Med-Stop | Runs the system, the Random Selection Service, and support. It is not a Clearinghouse C/TPA; your company queries and reports in the FMCSA Clearinghouse itself or through a C/TPA it designates. |
From request to result
- Your company creates a test request, or a random selection calls for one.
- The employee goes to a collection site with the request instructions.
- The collection is recorded as a test linked to the request.
- Drug specimens go to the laboratory, and the MRO reviews the laboratory result.
- The result appears on the test record, and anything that needs action shows on your Welcome dashboard.
Breath alcohol results and tests recorded from outside collections follow a shorter path. A test request and a completed test are separate records; see Test request or test record: which should I use?.
