What is a test request?
Last Updated: 09/24/2026
A test request is your company's order for a drug test, alcohol test, or medical examination. It serves two purposes:
- Scheduling: it sets the service, collection site, date, and time, and it gives the employee an authorization code for the collector.
- DOT notice: for DOT-regulated tests, it records that the employee was notified that the test is required (49 CFR 382.113).
How it works in Med-Stop
- When you create the request, Med-Stop checks that the site offers the service and is open at that time.
- If the site accepts faxed requests, Med-Stop faxes the request to the site, so the employee does not wait while it is set up.
- The request stays open until the test is done or you close it. Its history shows every status change.
- When the test is performed at a Med-Stop or electronically connected site, the request is updated and linked to the test record, where the result appears.
A request is not a result. Always check the test record for the outcome.
