What records must I keep for DOT-regulated employees?

DOT-regulated employers must keep drug and alcohol testing program records, and FMCSA motor carriers must also keep a driver qualification file for each driver, including the medical examiner's certificate.
- Testing records and how long to keep them: 49 CFR 382.401 (FMCSA) and 49 CFR 40.333.
- Driver qualification files: 49 CFR 391.51.
You can store copies in Med-Stop (employee, test, and company documents), and test records are available in the employee history. Your company remains responsible for keeping complete records for the required periods.
