What is post-accident testing?

Post-accident testing is required after an accident that meets your DOT agency's criteria. For FMCSA-regulated drivers, 49 CFR 382.303 requires testing when:
- the accident involved a fatality, or
- the driver received a citation and someone was injured and treated away from the scene, or a vehicle was towed because of disabling damage.
Time limits (FMCSA)
- Alcohol: as soon as practicable; if not done within 2 hours, document why; stop trying after 8 hours.
- Drugs: as soon as practicable; stop trying after 32 hours and document why.
Testing must never delay necessary medical care. In Med-Stop you can record the accident and create post-accident test requests from the accident record.
