What is a DOT physical?

A DOT physical is the medical examination that decides whether a driver meets the FMCSA physical qualification standards to drive a commercial motor vehicle (49 CFR 391.41).
A medical examiner listed on the National Registry reviews your health history and checks, among other things:
- Vision and hearing.
- Blood pressure and pulse.
- A urinalysis for protein, blood, and sugar (this is not a drug test).
- Your general physical condition, including heart, lungs, nervous system, and limbs.
If you qualify, you are certified for up to 24 months.
