What should I check when recording an accident?

Check that you selected the right employee and accident date, and record facts rather than conclusions.
- Whether anyone was killed or received medical treatment away from the scene.
- Whether any vehicle had disabling damage and was towed.
- Whether the driver received a citation, from whom, and when.
- Report number, reporting agency, and witnesses.
These facts decide whether a DOT post-accident test is required. The accident record does not order a test for you.
